The Tech Lingo Explained

DRC-20 Standard

DRC-20 is a token standard for the Dogecoin blockchain, much like ERC-20 is for Ethereum. It provides a set of rules and functions for creating fungible tokens on Dogecoin. This standardization ensures that DRC-20 tokens can be easily managed by wallets, traded on exchanges, and integrated into various decentralized applications (dApps) within the Dogecoin ecosystem. Key aspects include defining total supply, enabling balance checks, and facilitating token transfers. The emergence of DRC-20 aims to expand Dogecoin's utility, paving the way for DeFi applications, new projects, and broader tokenization on the much-loved Doge network.

Doginals (Dogecoin Ordinals)

Doginals are the Dogecoin version of Bitcoin's Ordinals. They represent a way to create unique digital artifacts, often NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), directly on the Dogecoin blockchain. This is achieved by "inscribing" data—such as images, text, videos, or even interactive experiences—onto individual "Shibes" (the smallest, indivisible unit of a Dogecoin, similar to a Satoshi in Bitcoin). Each Doginal is unique because it's tied to a specific Shibe in the order it was mined. This method allows for the creation of on-chain digital collectibles without relying on complex smart contracts like those on Ethereum, making Dogecoin a new frontier for artists, creators, and collectors.
